In aviation, Joe Clark is probably best known as the father of the blended winglet, a design that has been an incredible fuel-saving and performance-enhancing technology for airlines and operators around the world. Countless awards have been bestowed upon Joe, including the Horatio Alger award, the Innovator of the Year award for Professional Pilot magazine, the Aviation Entrepreneur of the Year and the Lifetime Aviation Entrepreneur for Living Legends of Aviation. He served as member of the National Air and Space Museum board of directors,
co-founder of Horizon Air, and co-founder of the Friendship Foundation with his best friends Clay Lacy and Bruce McCaw.

Joe has served as a Museum of Flight trustee since 1999. In addition to his substantial financial contributions to the Museum over the years, he served on the Collections Committee, the Communications and Marketing Committee, the Exhibits Committee, and countless gala committees. He received the Museum’s prestigious Pathfinder award in 2008. And perhaps one of the things he would be most proud of is his beautiful 747 blended winglet that graces the Museum’s West Plaza.
